While it's true that Iberia is relatively isolated and very internally mixed these days, the trained eye can also perceive internal gradients, specially a West/East one, probably because of geographical/historical reasons. In villages these differences usually become more obvious, as you can find many more people with two Catalan surnames. But we must take into account that half the population of Catalonia has been mixed with other Iberians, particularly in the last three centuries.
Catalonia, but also Aragon and Navarre, have obviously been more in contact with the core of Europe along their history -if only geographically- and even their political origin is Frankish -unlike the origin of Asturias (Portugal and Castile) as an opposition to the Moor invasion.
