I think so, definitely assimilated Jews were more likely to survive than Orthodox Jews. The former spoke good Polish and dressed casually, the latter often spoke poor Polish with heavy accent, and dressed in the "long caftan" (traditional clothes, like modern Haredim).

Current First Lady of Poland - Agata Duda - is partially Jewish and her ancestors were from Galicia (Cracow).

My Polish friend says Kaczyński is of Jewish origin. Is this true?

To be honest when I was in Poland I got the impression that most Poles had animosity towards Jews. My room mate was openly anti-Semitic.

It depends on the individual. I do feel like I have more in common with a Jew than with any other ethnic group in Europe (besides Slavs), I also have quite a bit of Jewish heritage, dating back all the way from the partitions of Poland in 1793 to a few years ago.
