Both names have a different etymology. Its just a coincidence that they sound similar. Serbs/Sorbs are unrelated to Iranics. The word 'Serb' comes from the Proto-Slavic sьrbъ which means "ally". The word still exists in the Ukrainian присербитися (pryserbytysja) which means "to join".

Czech historian František Palacký also tried to explain etymologically, that SRB means relative, person of the same family (clan) - originated from verb SRBATI = to suck (breast milk of the same mother)
Ohledem na stejnost rodu svého (Slované) jmenovali-li se mezi sebou vůbec “Srbi”, tj. příbuzenci... (Palacký, Dějiny, str 96) ... jsouce co do původu a rodu všeho všikni “Srbové”, to jest příbuzenci (Palacký, Dějiny, str 151). Srb od slova srbati (stejné mateřské mléko).
