    In Czech language we have historically the same term for Serb and Sorb (SRB) but for Sorbs we had to use adjective LUŽICKÝ (Lusatian, from Lusatia):

    In regards to more distant lands, people just loan the spelling as opposed to coming up with their own spelling that would best suit their language's pronunciation. The Germans called the Lusatian Serbs Sorbe because they had a lot of historical contact with them. When you have a lot of historical contact with certain people, then their name becomes treated like an indigenous word in your language and has a spelling best fit for the language's pronunciation. Germans didn't have as much historical contact with Balkan Serbs so their name was just directly loaned into German without any spelling alterations.
