A lot of Catholic Irish immigrants from hundreds of years ago live in Scotland. That's how the soccer team Celtic was formed

Ya and they have white and green jerseys. The green represents the fresh pitch (rriigghhht?) And the white represents their pasty skin tone (rriigghhht?)

Ireland wants NI to reunite with them. Many NI Protestants have died fighting against Catholic Irishmen, both in terrorist attacks and while serving the British army. I'm sure anyone that wasn't living in a cave would know about the Catholic-Protestant situation in NI.

Scotland isn't claimed by Ireland or vice versa. There isn't any real political dispute between them. But there was a bit of discontentment from native Scots towards Irish migrants from Ireland proper and NI during the famine and afterwards. When migrants from Ireland (the whole island) came to Scotland, they also brought some of their sectarian issues with them. I've heard that because of Irish/NI migrants, the 12th of July (day King William conquered Ireland) and St. Patrick's Day are bigger holidays than St. Andrew's Day in Scotland lol. Historically, the greater Glasgow area was known for being very anti-Irish Catholic, but I assume that issue has simmered down in recent times. Rangers FC has a lot of very sectarian anti-Catholic songs by the way. One common insult used by them towards the Catholic is "fenian" (which comes from an Irish-American separatist/terrorist group) and the insult used by Catholics towards Proddies is "Hun" (a term initially used towards German Nazis cause they were barbaric but then applied to Brits cause they were Germanic). The Orange Order's main presence is in Southwest Scotland and Northern Ireland with a very minuscule present in Northern England.

They also bring mostly Irish flags to Celtic games even though Celtic are a Scottish club from what I've heard. Rangers fans bring mostly UK flags as opposed to Scottish ones.

I had a coworker who's a die hard Rangers fan from Glasgow. He has the Rangers logo tattooed on his heart, haha. He said it's 100% still a religious rivalry
