So, according to the generally agreed upon characteristics of a cult, the SDA church is indeed a cult. Or at least, they definitely meet more criteria than most religions towards being defined as one.

Definitely a cult. The most similar group to them in overall outlook and behaviour is Jehohav's Witnesses. Interesting also that both of them believe Jesus Christ = the Archangel Michael. And they were found in more or less the same time period.. the some founders of Jehovah's Witnesses were also Adventists.
