Deutscheck or Deutscheneck means German Corner. In case Poles may find the name puzzling.

Some of these names have a historical basis as they were the names used by the German minority. For instance in Dutch, the names from the most important Polish cities are: Danzig (more recently Gdansk but few people can pronounce that one), Krakau, Warschau, Posen (or Pozan more recently) and Stettin, Breslau. In most cases, I wouldn't even know the Polish names.

Historical names were often replaced by more Germanic-sounding names during the Nazi occupation in WW2.

For example Weichselstadt for Aleksandrów Kujawski (while before 1939 it was just Aleksandrow in German).

That happened too. But some were historic as well. I guess the Poles need to come to terms with their dual heritage there.
And maybe rekindle that old alliance a bit..

Some other examples: Ostrołęka was renamed Scharfenweise and Rzeszów was renamed Reichsdorf, during WW2.

Other examples (but these name changes took place already in 1935, because places are in Opole/Oppeln Silesia):

Oderhain (name in 1935-1945) Januschkowitz (name until 1935) Januszkowice (name after 1945)

I'm talking about renaming names all over Poland. Since Germans occupied all of Poland after 1941.

Lwów is Lemberg in German by the way (but this name is historical/Medieval not from WW2 times).

The other German names are far more natural and remind me of place names in much of Eastern Germany. Like Zwickau, Chemnitz, Görlitz. Hmm the Poles have Germanic blood, the Germans Slavic blood. Hitler was a dumb fool. How could this damn fool actually believe that there were such things as complete pure ethnic groups when they have neighbours ? Many a German lad bedded and married a Polish girl over the centuries and the other way around as well.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

Yes, the -au and -itz names are of Slavic origin. Also for example Rostock is of Slavic origin (but Greifswald is Germanic).
