    Nao somente a demografia, mas tambem o poder economico e cultural.

    I think you can't use dutch abroad either. Like i said, only english people can get away with it.

    In South Africa. Spaniards (open-minded ones) probably can understand written Portuguese, but it's your phonology that makes it hard for the uninitiated Spaniard to understand spoken Portuguese, right? It's what linguists call 'asymmetrical intelligibility'.

    Nao quero perder o tema da discussao, mas acho que os holandeses podem falar com relativa facilidade na sua propia lingua em paises onde falam alemao. (Por alem disso, as suas ex-colonias tambem).
