Later Richard Lionheart came and avenged, defeating Ayyubids in a pitched battle and restoring the coastline kingdom which Saladin took, save Jerusalem city.

Saladin did strategic move. He kicked the Crusader asses which was quite satisfying I must say. Jerusalem was the key as it was the scared city, thus Saladin made the first great victory against the Crusaders who were made of many Western European nations. He is responsible for weakening the Crusader states. Eventually the Crusaders would only have fortress at Acre, which the Mamlukes and their Bedouin Arab allies would crush into pulp and sending them to England, France, Germany where they belong. It's all about strategy that man Saladin was.

Crusaders already became irrelevant by Saladin's rise. The man who played the key role was Zengi, son of Ak Sungur.
After he helped the Great Seljuk's Mahmut crush the Arab rebellion led by Abbasi caliph Al Mustashir Billah, he was promoted from being Basra governor (south Iraq) in 1130's to becoming owner of Mosul and Aleppo.

    Crusaders had 4 states:
    -Kingdom of Jerusalem
    -County of Tripoli
    -Princeps of Antioch
    -County of Edessa

Local Turcoman rulers (Ilghazi, Sökmen) already eliminated the armies of Edessa and Antioch at famous battles of Harran in 1104 (Edessa army wiped out) and at Ager Sanguinis in 1119 (Antioch's Norman army completely eliminated by Ilghazi).
And it wasn't like Hattin where the Hewal Saladin defeated an already defeated crusader army, weak and dying out of thirst in middle of the desert.

Zengi completely removed Edessa, he caused 2nd Crusade. Both French and German expeditions of 2nd Crusade failed as Mesut (no confusion, from Turkish Seljuks not Great Seljuk) defeated both armies at Mount Cadmus (French) and Second Dorylaeum (Germans).
    It was in 1140's.

Then, during the stalemate, Franks kept losing power.
The last Byzantine possible lifeline to Antioch and attempt to remove Anatolian Turks was defeated by Kilij Arslan II in 1176 at Myriocephalon (near Konya).

Saladin was then free to defeat weakened Jerusalem.

    No big deal.

However, unlike Turks who could defeat fresh armies coming from Europe, the Kurdo-Erab Saladin couldn't defeat English King Richard.
Richard defeated Saladin in pitched battle and took many coastal cities from Saladin (Acre and all way until Ascalon).

Saladin ended as a defeated man.

He wasn't a Khaled ibn Waleed or Saad Ibn al Abu Wakkas.
