    Buf/Akritas. Lerinsko.
    Според статистиката на Васил Кънчов („Македония. Етнография и статистика“) в 1900 година Бухъ (Буфъ) има 1900 жители българи.[11] Цялото село е под върховенството на Българската екзархия.
    Exarchists. Though, my great grandfather, who was born in Buf (present day akritas) never called himself a B'lgarin. Only a Makedonec.

    It's sad that i have to read this stuff where are calling my ancestors something they never called themselves.

    Voditel and krepitel alright. My family use do harbour Macedonian revolutionaries in there homes when they were hiding from the Ottoman authorities. Buf produced revolutionaries and also gave them a place to camp out. Buf is a mountain village, and is in a strategic area.

    My great grandfather had a story of his childhood, of tall men with long beards hiding in his home. As a child he recalls being amazed by it all. Those men being the Komitaji fighters ofcourse.

    There are also lists of notable people for each village. Serbomans, Macedonists and Bulgarians.

    There is none. It was made up of 3 vilayets: Salonica, Manastir and Kosovo vilayets. Macedonians and foreigners had an idea of a Ottoman Macedonia though.

    French map:

    "Macedonia for the Macedonians"

    Can you show me Ottoman Greece please?

    The Srbomans and Bulgaromans fell to each respective propaganda.

    The Macedonian identity was organic. And was not shoved down the peoples throats like the Serbian, Greek and Bulgarian identities were.

    "Macedonia will be independent and the Macedonians will remain Macedonians.
    If Europe thinks otherwise, will be wrong? If the Bulgarians consider on the Bulgarisation of Macedonia, these are illusions. What the Macedonians want is the autonomy for their country, with the intervention of Europe in their favor. No division, no annexation to another state; Macedonia is unique and to the Macedonians. Who can oppose the creation of an autonomous Macedonia? Greeks, for example. Greeks have large claims, it is clear, but after the war of 1897 that they cause, they verified their military incompetence. Macedonians should be recognized and they should be helped to create their own autonomous state in the Balkans, safe and civilized. These people are talented people who would do great deeds. "

    "... There are still those that today's inhabitants of Macedonia do not consider neither for Serbs or Bulgarians, but a separate ethnicity, probably descendants of the ancient Macedonians. ... "

    These are the statistics. The people were counted by religious affiliation and language. My father's village in Bitola region reads as follows;

    Цялото население на селото е гъркоманско под върховенството на Цариградската патриаршия. По данни на секретаря на Българската екзархия Димитър Мишев („La Macédoine et sa Population Chrétienne“) в 1905 година има 440 българи патриаршисти гъркомани
    My mother's village also in Bitola region;

    Цялото население на селото е под върховенството на Българската екзархия. По данни на секретаря на екзархията Димитър Мишев („La Macédoine et sa Population Chrétienne“) в 1905 година има 216 българи екзархисти.
    I guess this makes me a Greco-Bulgarian

    Are the lists publicly available?

    Is your ancestral village listed in the links above?
