Do people here overate the look-distance between Southern Europe and Middle East?

I argue that secularized middle eastern people easily pass as southern european, and even get mistaken as natives by southern europeans themselves...

It depends. I think it’s like a continuum where some Middle Eastern people may look South European and some South European can look North European.

I know both many northern european and mena people. The mena people get regularly mistaken as natives, but the northern europeans never.

I've never seen a single Syrian refugee that could pass as a native of any sorts. On the other hand, there's a lot of overlap between them and Gypsies and if they knew how to speak Serbian, the people here would mistake them for Romani.

from what i have seen , lighter northern middle easterners when groom themselves well get things like dont look MENA, look closer to European,must be atypical etc so i think grooming can make them less exotic for Europe.

Yes. Because syrian refugees are mostly religious muslims they dont pass in southern europe. But if they throw off the hijab and put on a bikini I guess few would notice them.

Roma people are either darker or lighter than middle-eastern people, but u can separate them because of their sense of ”style” and behaviour anyway...

The overlapp or real similarity is mainly only between Fringe groups from Middle East

Like Lebanese and West Asians from Anatolia and Caucasus which aren't even proper Middle East and corresponding Fringe Groups from Southern Europe
like Sicily and Malta for example
