Another shameful moment for today’s Europe and especially for France, as an elderly priest was brutally beaten and even needed to be hospitalised.

The 82-year-old American priest was robbed and beaten just after his first steps in France, newspaper le Progrčs reports.

Last Friday night, around 10:00 p.m, the elderly man arrived in southern France, at Lyon’s the Part-Dieu train station.

With his map in his hands, the priest was looking for his hotel, when a man offered to help him find it. The man lured him to an isolated location outside the station, and beat him violently to steal his satchel.

The priest was hit on the head and robbed of his bag, which contained his money, passport and plane tickets. The elderly man had facial injuries requiring stitches and was hospitalised overnight.

The next day, with the help of police and the US embassy, the priest was allowed to spend the night at his hotel, the Novotel Part-Dieu in Lyon. Despite police’s efforts, the attacker was not found.
