Can ethnicities be self identified?

I think most Chinese would not accept her as Chinese even if she somehow manages to get a Chinese citizenship. If she however could racially pass as Chinese, and acts in accordance to Chinese culture than most Chinese would not have problem with her.

I wonder how she would be considered as if she does not know about her true ethnicity and sees herself as Chinese, in other words, if she is an assimilated one?

I think in that case it all depends on her racial component. If she looks Chinese she would be considered Chinese, if not she would not.

I'm only American, I would never tell someone or consider myself European in any way. I haven't been there or relate to the people in any way just because of their dna. Thankfully, America is a mixed country so I don't feel out of place... it's my true home.

She would be confused. For Chinese she would be a foreigner, for her own ancestral countrymen (Turks) she would be also a foreigner.

Yes, but also that factor when people see all those who were born outside of their own country, even if they are racially the same, as foreigners.
