When I visited Edinburgh, the only time I remember seeing Gaelic signs was in the Scottish Parliament. Certainly you don't usually see it on road signs, in public transport and in shops like you do with Welsh in Wales. And in Wales there is also a debate between those who (whether or not they themselves speak Welsh) see maintaining the Welsh language as an essential part of the country's history and identity, and those who see it as antiquated, pointless and wasteful.

You seem to be focusing on language.
Nine out of ten concerns are completely unfounded.

I wanted the thread to discuss all the points I made in equal measure, but other users like Longbowman and J Ketch found my point about English attitudes towards other languages the most contentious point of all, so I was just responding in kind.

Not really. Most buyers in Amsterdam are either German, British or American. A lot of Belgians and French in the border regions.

I thought the Netherlands recently changed its laws so that only Dutch nationals could purchase cannabis legally?

That was the plan but that never materialized. It would have led to a disastrous rise in illegal trade and the wholesale closure of legitimate sellers.
