I have to say that Europe didn't take a unified stand against the Ottoman Empire, for a very long time; consequently, it's despot rulers were able to run roughshod over the Christian Minority Groups there for a very long time. Having disposed of the Ottoman Empire, after World War I, European Countries again were more than happy to cut deals with Ataturk, even as Smyrna's Christian Quarters were burnt to the ground.
Ataturk's Turkifcation process remade Turkey for the Turks. Now, we've seen a baby buggy invasion of Europe, for a long time. That grotesque mosque in Cologne was funded by Turkey, and is a cheap pop art replica of Hagia Sophia.
In 1922, the Director of the Collegiate Institute for Girls, Minnie Mills, said this, about Smyrna: "I could plainly see the Turks carrying the tins of petroleum into the houses, from which, in each instance, fire burst forth immediately afterward. There was not an Armenian in sight, the only persons visible being Turkish soldiers of the regular army in smart uniforms."
Meanwhile, the European Fleets were given orders to remain at a distance, as they observed people in dread of being roasted alive at the piers. The community formerly called Smyrna is now called Izmir.

Cologne is possibly the Seattle of Europe. I am there quite often, its filled with fortune seekers, islamic immigrants, gays and the few remaining natives. Really a toxic city these days.
