Dutch company gives 9 Syrian refugees a job: None return after first week
By VOICE OF EUROPE 17 October 2018
A construction company from Capelle aan den Ijssel had the plan to give nine Syrian asylum seekers, with a background in construction work, a job. As they hired the men, they did not show up after a week, Dutch newspaper AD reports. https://www.ad.nl/rotterdam/syriers-...agen~abc08845/
Dominque De Vries, the owner of construction company DSPPM gave the nine men a two-year contract, but his warm gesture backfired.
“They’ve stayed for a week, because they didn’t want to work fulltime (40 hours) … Afterwards I did not see them again,” De Vries says.
The project between the company and the asylum seeker was even started by the mayor and the construction company invested heavily to educate the nine men.
“I was very enthusiastic and I invested a lot of time in it. I wanted to give these people a chance,” De Vries says.
He furnished a complete class room with tables and chairs to school the men on construction work.
After all the failed asylum seeker project costs De Vries and his company a lot of money. His construction project is delayed and he needs new men to do the job.
