It's more like a traditionalism, and keeping a cultural heritage. Ofc if someone practice this kind of religion, they have to believe in that to some level. But theres a good proverb in relation to this.

I have alot of interest in Germanic mythology. However, I don't believe they were real in the literal sense. I look at them as symbolism for different things.
