Do you mean the south-west or the south-east? I'm originally from the West Country of south-west England and the folk down there and in Cornwall are friendly.

I've also encountered pleasant, polite, and friendly English people during my childhood in Kent in the south-east too, and I also met friendly people during my time living in Hampshire and in different regions of London. Depends on the person.

Southerners generally tend to be more shy and reserved and more snooty than the notherners, but being reserved around strangers is not to be confused with being unfriendly. Northerners rudely call us as 'southern fairies' and 'snooty southerners' and 'southern softies'... as they think we're soft, naive, sensitive, etc.

How much of the south have you explored and lived in? I like the ancient spa city (City of Bath - a World Heritage City,) it's very beautiful and I have friendly relatives who've happily settled and lived there for many years. It's a contrast to the neighbouring city of Bristol - which I dislike.

The City of Bath doesn't represent the entire county of Somerset and certainly not the entire West Country though.
