Ross, you're not an American, and you're not Hispanic. Why are you on this thread talking about...Indians?

She is no Muslim. Really pretty girl, too much perfume though. My Mom told me besides the normal
marriage in the USA ...my Nephew is going to Bangladesh for a wedding deal there also.

It's pretty much the same as when any English speaking White person in the U.S. is called an "Anglo."

My american teacher is Mexican-American from California, she looks fully amerindian, when we saw her for the first time we knew she was not brazilian, but we also didnt imagine she was american. Her first class was even about immigration and her family's history. I don't know if she is hispanic or native american in the US census, I will ask her about it next class.

She should be, since Hispanic is one thing at census, White is another.

The funniest thing is that 51,42% of Mexican-Americans said they are white at 2010 census.

I mean hispanic or native american. She is really amerindian looking even for mexican standard of amerindian. I think she is not hispanic at census. If she is hispanic, so that's crazy, she is really off for us brazilians.

When they tried an alternative test around 2015 something like 10-20 of Hispanics chose white.
For European itd probably be 5-10%.
In the end they left the census alone, but will ask for citizenship and ancestry.
Made a post before about it, but the US census needs improvement at least consistency/the categories.

The term 'Native American' in the US census only refers to people native to the boundaries of USA as opposed to people native to all of the Americas. She'd be considered 'White' (as stupid as that is) and maybe 'Hispanic' in the US.

These guys are all considered 'White' (+'Hispanic') in the US.

Hispanic isn't considered a race in the US census. First you have the option to pick a race and then you have the option to specify if you're Hispanic or not. For example, I put 'non-Hispanic Asian' on those forms.

Here is an example from the government's website:

You can see that for #8 you have to specify whether you are Hispanic or not and then you select your race afterwards in #9.

Well, so she could put like "Hispanic" and "Other Race" or "Two and more races", since putting Native American could make people think she's from a Native US group.

And well, we brazilians aren't Hispanic but Latino only; anyway, an Argentinian or Uruguayan would say the same thing, so still.

I think US Census are just trying to understand the bulk of Latino born population more than Races itself when asking it. But I still thinking some Castizos/Harnizos feel themselves as white since the way Latin American countries deal with it is totally different. It's almost impossible to understand sometimes.
