In the mountainous areas of Sardinia is practiced a kind of traditional fight more or less similar to Greek-Roman wrestling. This kind of fighting style exists since the Nuragic age (1800-200 b.C), as documented by Nuragic bronze statuettes depicting men practicing this fight. In Sardinian language this fight is called "Istrumpa", from the Sardinian verb "Istrumpare or Istrampare" (to smash to the ground / to fall violently).
The rules of "S'istrumpa" are simple. The two fighters, named "Gherradores" (warriors), can't use punches or kicks, they must remain tightly embraced, and they can only use their brute force or their legs to bring down the adversary until his shoulders touch the ground.
Every year in Sardinia is held a tournament in the village of Ollolai, with fighters from every corner of the island, and guests from various countries where similar traditional fighting styles are present, like Scotland, Brittany, Spain, Greece and others.
