One question: what Filipino words are of Nahuatl origin?

Wow! The words that impressed me the most were Nanay, Papay, tukayo and tiyangge.

By the way, how common are tamales? They are a mangar! In Mexico they tend to eat in Christmas and New Year seasons.

I think in the past we ate alot of Mexican foodstuff but it began to be replaced with American foods ever since American take-over. Which is sad, because we have a very deep friendship and brotherhood with Mexico.

We were never a profitable colony to Spain or a self-sustaining territory to the Viceroyalty of New Spain (Mexico)...

Because we are at the center of Maritime Southeast Asia and thus we were kris-crossed by various invading and raiding navies, turning the Philippines into a constant battleground.

Furthermore, we are in the Pacific Ring of Fire too, like Mexico...

So we are constantly obliterated by Earthquakes, Tsunamis and Volcanoes...

Yet, despite all this, Mexico never fails to send tens of thousands of soldiers constantly, just for one half of them to die in the battlefields of the Philippines.
And that Mexico always pays for the constant bankruptcies and deficits we have due to war and natural disasters, so we deeply cherish and respect the Mexicans.

That's why Filipinos shed blood too in Mexico during the Mexican revolution.

One Filipino was even a general in the Mexican revolution.

Pretty cool and interesting. Those civilisations were very advanced. I wonder what would happen and how they would do now if they had never been invaded by spaniards.

If the Spanish never invaded then they would be in their original purity and glory. But sometimes, as Saint Augustine said, God gives us evils so that we can conquer them and produce and even greater good from conquering that evil than simply just staying with original innocence.

It's like with immunity and disease, sure your body would be better off without illness but once it has survived an illness it gains immunity from it and you can bless your descendants with genetic resistance to that type of disease.

You should read about the Romance of the Mexico-born Conquistador Juan de Salcedo and Philippine born Princess Kandarapa. It's so beautiful yet so tragic, it would make your heart break.

Wow! They are very interesting and do not stop surprising the historical and cultural links of the Philippines and Mexico. No wonder, we were the same territory about 300 years ago. It's a pity that the links were lost after Independence.

The Philippines and Mexico must once again strengthen their political and cultural ties.

Es una historia muy interesante pero a la vez triste. Sería digna para una pelicula de Hollywood.

It's hard to know that. Upon the arrival of the Mesoamerican Spaniards, it was in a period of decline. The Aztecs wanted to unify Mesoamerica but they did not do it in the best way, winning the enmity of many peoples, who propelled by the prophecies of the beginning of a dark period, allied with the Spaniards to defeat the Aztecs and accepted evangelization.

A handful of Spaniards could never have had thousands of well-trained warriors, despite their weapons superiority. The conquest was not made by the Spaniards, they only took advantage of the situation. The conquest was a civil war, made by the natives themselves.

Despite the period of decline, Mesoamerican cultures were much more advanced in several areas than the European, who barely came out of obscurantism.
