Default south asia is not ethnicity. india is successfull version of pan arabism

i have seen so much racist comments/stereotypes against south asia on this forum. How would you feel if one group stereotypes will automatically applied to all groups who have nothing in common?

Has anyone ever studied India briefly or in depth? what is pan indianism?

Well for those who don’t know , India is a nation in South Asia composed of several different ethnic groups such as the Tamils, Bengalis etc. They even have their own states within India. So Bengalis are often from West Bengal and Tamils are often from Tamil Nadu etc. You get the point.

Now you’re probably wondering “What does this have to do with Arabism?”

Well you see the Tamils , Bengalis , Sikkimese , Kashmiris and Punjabis all have different languages, cultures and traditions, some of them even produce their own cinema, music and literature! But they still identify as Indian and are still proud of India and see it as their nation and homeland.

And the reason for this is that they decided to focus on their similarities and establish a common identity as Indians.

But they are different people with some shared history/culture

    What is pan arabism ?

Arabism is the idea that the Arabs should build their very own “India” where the Arab peoples, just like the Indian peoples, unite on their similarities not their differences.

But arab is loose term to all middle eastern groups with different ethnic groups/cultures just like india or south asian and many hate each other("arabs" would understand this), same thing is with south asian where genetic difference between various communities in far north to far south can be way too big,

so remember next time south asia or india is not ethnicity.

Exactly, I feel the same way about the word desi which is a bullshit term made to include 1.4 billion people as if we’re all the same which couldn’t be further from the truth

agreed i cringe every time desi word is used and i i can't take seriously abuse words in comments like mc,chutiya or bharwa type bhayya words from indians against pakistani and start laughing but if it's in punjabi i will lose my shit and will actually feel hurt.

99% is way to exaggerated, maybe 99% can at least pass in the nearby neighbouring regions but otherwise no. I think it may be a symptom of us living in a Western country, but I am guessing different ethnic groups in South Asia, to people living in South Asia, they can easily tell apart other groups, just as easy as Europeans can tell other Europeans apart. Like I can tell Italians apart from Greeks maybe 60-80% of the time, but I know that Anglo Australians can't most of the time.

I don't even know anybody irl who uses the term South Asian, although maybe it's just an Australian thing. Personally though, I can't tell a lot of South Asians apart but I can usually at least tell apart a South Indian from a North Indian I think.

yeah i was joking for the most part haha. I was mocking many members on this forum thats pretty much it. Yeah you're absolutely right. There's variation within regions/states and even within castes, let alone between regions and countries.

I don’t know what it’s like in Australia but in the UK south Asian unity doesn’t exist, Sikhs hang around with Sikhs, Gujuratis hang out with Gujuratis, Pakistanis stick with Pakistanis and Bengalis stick with Bengalis

We don't really have Pakistanis and Bangladeshis here in great numbers, I have yet to meet a Pakistani person in my entire life, theres about as many Nepalese here as Pakistanis.

Most South Asians I have met in Australia are some kind of North Indian, Tamil, Sri Lankan, Fijian Indian, Anglo Indian or some kind of South East Asian born Indian.
