First of all, there was never a "Former Ottoman Vilayet of Greece". In this context even Russia was a "vilayet" of the Golden Horde. Did it cease to exist as a nation during that time? Finally, those folks used to be Bulgarians, and before that lots of other different things. They were never Macedonians though.
