Right and left in political dialectic come from the opposition between monarchism and republicanism in the legislative assembly after French revolution, trying to give it a religious symbolism is a manner of depoliticization of politics and politicization of personal affairs, it can only downgrade the level of the debate and make us go around circles.

And actually: 1789 was not that moment that they seized power. They did so after the relatively moderate revolution. Just like they did in Russia later on.
