The Netherlands (like the rest of Eurasia) saw various plague epidemics during the 17th century and I can't help but notice a pattern: most of those erupted in port cities and those directly connected to them (f.i Amsterdam got hit several times over. But also Kampen, Rotterdam etc). The question is: where did they originate ? They came in from overseas... but where ?

Also interesting to note that the number of outbreaks of pneumonic plague was more prevalent than the outbreaks of its more well-known brother. If anyone has good sources on this, let me know ? What I could find is Southern Spain and Portugal in 1602 (particularly Faro - hitting towns like Kampen and their surroundings but also cities all over Holland particularly hard), Italy in the 1630s (Amsterdam took it on the chin for much of the 1630s) and 1650s (Amsterdam big time in 1653) and London or Smyrna and, potentially, Constantinople in 1666.
