Default Bulgarian PM: ‘Greek-Bulgarian Relations Example for all Neighbors’

Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borisov stated on Monday that Greek-Bulgarian cooperation serves as an example for other neighbors. These remarks were made during his address to the 3rd Euro-Arab Summit in Athens.

“We will always be good friends with Greece and we would like others to follow suit,” he said, while stressing the importance of energy cooperation between the two countries.

Borisov said that he will discuss with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras cooperation on the remaining 25 percent of the IGB (Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria) gas pipeline project that still remains to be clarified.

He also referred to his personal relations with Tsipras and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, noting that “we are a small group of people that insist on unity and an international presence of the European Union, and the Arab countries cannot but be a partner in this. We have better chances when we cooperate, when our efforts are coordinated,” he underlined.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister said that the high number of participants at the summit demonstrates the momentum and the prospects that exist for prosperity in the wider region.

He also referred to the importance of the protection of human rights, stressing the need to defend them.

It's my hero. Tomorrow maybe I will put Alexios Komnenos in my Avatar. The History is Past. We must focus on the Future.

    Artificial friendship.

During the Bulgarian empire we also had peace treaties with the Byzantine empire for a certain period of time, but this doesn't mean that we were friendly oriented. Similar situation today.

The governments might be in perfect relations, but Bulgarians and Greeks dislike each other.

Personally, I haven't heard Greeks to speak bad about Bulgarians.

    I am sure about that.

But Greeks perceive themselves as noble, educated, civilized compared to their neighbours. And during communication with some non-Greek Balkanite, they act as the other person must be required to have special attitude towards them. Most of the time their reason to behave like that is their illusion coming from the past, yet there is a lack of manners and education and whatsoever. They probably do not realize that, but such behaviour cannot be a base for a friendship.

I don't think it is an example for all neighbours. Just a political speech.

Let's take a look Greece's neighbours and their relations.

    Greece - Albania
    Greece - Macedonia
    Greece - Turkey
    Greece - Bulgaria

Among them, clearly Bulgarian relations are best one. But still there is no friendship or something.
