Stears is 100 percent Eastern European on Ancestry, not very informative.
That's because on Ancestry DNA everything from Bulgaria to Kazakhstan is lumped under "eastern Europe "
I think I will go with 23 andme then, I trust you I won't necessarily throw out money to see Im east european . But how is that possible? ancestry works with 130+ region while 23andme has 30 ? It's interesting.

You will get the same either way mate, 23andme will tell you you're majority East Euro and give you vague "reference pops" you match with that in my case are 100 percent inaccurate and in the case of many other users, ancestrydna seems more accurate with a better database and it tests more SNPS. However 23andme is probably initially useful for its haplogroups, but I would defo do ancestry eventually. If you're into your anthropology and genetics n shit you'll probably end up doing both anyway, so better to do 23andme first for your Y dna.

Yes it does but they made tons of new regions for western Europe yet eastern is still just one.
It will give you genetic community (like Stears got West Slavs + Lithuania) but that is all.
And you get no mtDNA like on 23andme.

Both 23andme and LivingDna in Europe is €99 but with LivingDna you get more precise haplogroups

    No it is not true.
23andme suck for South Slavs but for Hungarians it is much more accurate than AncestryDNA because Hungarians are truly mostly East Euro but 23andme will show him German and Balkan admix he wont get on AncestryDNA because on Ancestry both Austria and Balkans are in same mega group as Hungary- East Europe.

On 23andme Austria is North and Balkan south Europe so he will get these admix as visible and on accurate level.

He should really go for 23andme, Ancestry would be far poorer choice in his case unlike in yours or mine.

I Agree with everything Jana has said. One thing to keep in mind is that nearly 32% of my 23andMe result was lumped into "Broadly" catagories, that was a bummer. I still think 23andMe is the better choice. I got no genetic communities with Ancestry, but I did get dots for specific countries; Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland on my 23andMe test.

23andme is pretty accurate, I'd say as a 95.5% Eastern European. It pinpointed my location exactly, plus the possible regions are very accurate as well. But keep in mind I had V4, keep hearing bad stuff about the new V5 chip.

Ancestry imo. Much more accurate with the new update.
