Best DNA testing for my circumstances..

Hello,

I am looking for advice and potential sign posting.

I want to know if it's realistic to expect to be able to trace my paternal line and possibly my real surname using commercial genetic testing? If so, what testing is recommended? Living DNA, Family Tree DNA etc?

What do you mean by sign posting?

Your best bet for what you seek, in my experience, is probably Ancestry.com because of the DNA+Trees+they have one of the larger customer bases.

LivingDNA is always a good choice - it gives you your mtDNA and Y-DNA plus an ancestry report. If your main goal is to trace your family linage, apparently AncestryDNA has one of the largest databases of records.
