Hi all, I thought I should pass on some information for those of you using Ancestry or those considering it (although this can apply to most dna services).
If you have direct Ashkenazi family relations the algorithms these companies use today will ascribe other parts of your dna to Ashkenazi, making the percentage of Ashkenazi higher then your known family tree. Ancestry was quite clear that once they find Ashkenazi dna their algorithm will assume you are Ashkenazi and since 70% of Ashkenazi dna is European, and endogamy makes the group, they ascribe some populations (Italian, Russian, Spanish, German - etc) to being part of your Ashkenazi percentage.
The bottom line is that having Ashkenazi in your family tree makes dna test percentages very difficult to define if the rest of your dna was part of the host population for Ashkenazi Jews.
