What I mean is, if you asked a Sicilian American in New Jersey, would they know that they share more genetic ancestry with a Tunisian, Syrian, or Lebanese person than with their Irish and German American neighbors?

Until relativly reccently most Ashkenazi Jews indentifed with their sub-division culture such as Galitzianer or Litvak.
During the 19th century many German Jews had become widely assimilated and developed a German identity.

However the vast majority of Ashkenazi Jews at that time were Galitzianers or Litvaks and these groups were never assimilated in the way German Jews were.

Even when Ashkenazi Jews Immigrated to the United the Litvak and Galitzianer distinction presisted until Ashkenazi Jews became increasingly assimilated into American society.

Before the 19th century very few Ashkenazi Jews identified as European or saw the nation they inhabited as important to their identity.

With Sicillians and Greeks a European identity was historically much stronger, but today the degree of European identity between these groups and Ashkenazi Jews is closer

So to answer your question, I think today most Ashkenazi Jews, Greeks, and Sicilians would probably except to be closer to Europeans as a whole than to West Asians. However, historically this would be not surprising at all for Ashkenazi Jews based on how they identified.
