    And if not, why not?

I would, even though it would strip me of the right in this country. The electorate should have undivided loyalties, in as much as possible.

If a person is born in said country, I'd be fine with them voting, whether they had 4 grandparents or not.

Sure, because then you have the other side who go to a country for a better life and are even more nationalistic about said country than some of its citizens with 4 or 8 grandparents born in the country.

They would be a minority though. The majority is what counts. Their idea of being nationalistic might be saying something oxymoronic and self-serving like 'there is nothing more American/Australian/Canadian than immigrants'.

Of course, I don't agree with that statement, but I think restricting to only 4 would be unwise as you'd be cutting off a decent number of voters who would otherwise vote for a party that could be beneficial for the country. You even stated yourself that you wouldn't be able to vote, when you are most likely more nationalist towards Australia than an Australian whose had numerous ancestors born there.

Yes, of course. Why give foreigners and their recent descendants any political power?

I wouldn't, and not just because that'd exclude me (only 3/4 were born in England in my case). Even though it might possibly be a harder policy to reliably enforce, I'd instead support restricting voting to people with four grandparents born in Europe. Even though people have slightly different values and belief systems all over the continent, I don't believe that any of them so starkly contrast with each other that it would ever cause political unrest. And I'd feel like it's quite harsh to ban an expatriated Dutch person (just as an example, since our value systems and culture are quite close) who moved to England from voting, since they'd probably have similar or identical views to, and come from a similar background as, a native British person. In a country like America, it could work the way you describe IMO.

So I suppose I broadly agree with what you're trying to do, I'd just lessen the restrictions a little.

I think my views don't override American values, conservative or liberal; we are a melting pot of cultures. You won't find many colonial American families that don't have something besides British in their lineage. I do support strict immigration laws and I support putting Americans first, but if you're born here you can run for president, that is the law of the land, so if the president can have 4 immigrant grand parents why cant the voter?
If they serve in the military or their parents then than I double my sentiment. I can't speak for Europeans or anyone else.

I don't like the idea of giving away citizenship to foreigners in the first place.

The only way a foreigner should be allowed to get citizenship must be via marriage or adoption.
