Default Veiled woman arrested for insulting Ataturk

In the East Thrace province of Edirne, a veiled 21-year old woman was arrested after chanting slogans against Ataturk during a commemoration of Ataturk ceremony and called people 'idol worshippers' and said Ataturk destroyed the Islamic law by bringing Western laws. She then got jailed on the court order.

The Mayor of Edirne stated that it was found that the girl was uncovered last year and dressed quite revealingly, but she covered up later. She is reported to come from a secular, Kemalist family but she went astray and was disowned by her family.

If you go to a commemoration ceremony where people mourn someone they love, and insult their loved one, of course this is provocation and incitement to hatred. Imagine going to a funeral and talking shit about the dead person. She should stay in prison. Also this dress is disgusting, I don't have anything against headscarf but this has no place in Turkey.

But the Turks permit Erdogan to exist, and his very existence is an insult to Ataturk everyday.

Even Saudi women are opening up and being modern.

This kind of dress should not be tolerated. Headscarf should be respected but not this one. It is not even mentioned in Qur'an. It is just a symbol for radical, extremist ideology that is highly prone to terrorism and violence.

And on the opposite end of it all, online Turks also once were offended at this Dutch woman.

But that was silly and not even meant as an insult at Atatürk nor done during any commemoration.

She was just being silly, I think, I would not be offended at all.

Btw I've never seen this. When did this happen?

Turkish outrage was probably very minor too. Happened a decade ago and was also done with bills from other countries. Atatürk's reforms helped catalyse the evolution of bikinis becoming the mainstream acceptable piece of clothing for Turkish women at the beach anyway.

It says that Dutch Turks were outraged. It is kinda surprising since most Dutch Turks seem to be quite fanatically Muslim.

Bikini was not mainstream all over the world till 1970s, I think. Also miniskirts. Those things started becoming accepted after the progressive movements of 1960s.
