Czechia/Bohemia is the name of the western part of the country but the name was imposed over the whole country. Czechia is just an Anglo-Latinization of the native name Čechy, and Čechy refers to the western part of the country.

Česko and Čech are the same thing. The name Česko didn't exist before the 20th century, its just a hangover from the name Československo that wouldn't exist if Czechia and Slovakia never unified. The Česko in Československo means "Czecho" as in Czechoslovakia. Česko and Čechy have the exact same etymology.

So it would be like if we called the country "Czecho" and the region "Czechia" in English.
Well, until 19th century the noun Čech, was used in our language just for dweller of Bohemia, and adjective český means just Bohemian, in that time.
Since middle ages the people identifies themselves mostly by the land/province, but since 19th century the ethnical nationalism brought te language identity.
If you asked dweller of Bohemia, what is his nation and language,
they can answerr that they are
    1) Bohemian (Čech) and Bohemian (česky) speaking
    or
    2) Bohemian (Böhm) and German (Deutsch) speaking

Also dwellers of Moravia will tell you that they are Moravians, Moravian or German speaking

But since Czech National Revival the terms Čech and ceský received another , new meanings - Slavic speaking dvwellers of Bohemia and Moravia.
Unlike in English, Frennch or German languages, the Czech lannguage has the same term for Czech and Bohemian.
To proper translation is important the context:
    1) Česká a moravská města = Bohemian and Moravian towns
    2) Česká a slovenská města = Czech and Slovak towns

But term Čechy was used just for Bohemia.
For the whole Czech speaking area was used terms Země České Koruny (Lands of Bohemian Crown) or České země (Czech Lands).

In 1993, when Czechoslovakia split into two countries, the Czech speaking country was named Česká Republika, shortly Česko.
The term Česko was used in previous centuries as a synonumum for Bohemia, but now received a new meaning - name for the whole country (Czech Republic, Czech Lands).

But it is true that some people (mostly from Bohemia) used the term Čechy incorectly, as a name for the whole country, wwhat is annoying also for moderate Moravians like me.

Anyway the standard literary Czech language is based on language of Bible of Kralice.
This translation of the Holy Bible was written at Moravia, and therefore in standard Czech are used words like mill, black, soap
    in the form of
mlýn, černý, mýdlo - like in Moravian dialects

    and not in Bohemian forms
    mlejn, černej, mejdlo

I think the surname 'Horváth' among Czechs and Slovaks indicates hungarian origin. The 'th' ending is very typical, archaic way of spelling in hungarian language. Lots of hungarian speaking roma people bear this surname too.

I call it Czech Republic because it makes it seems like a more progressive place. Like a center of civilisation in the middle of Central Europe surrounded by barbarians.

Hungarian lastnames in our country are hold by people of Hungarian and Slovak origin and also by Gypsies (most of the Czech Gypsies have their roots in Slovakia)
