I noticed Americans always support homogeneous nation-states in Europe but not in their own continent.

I find it silly that a huge continent like Australia or North America can contain only one or two countries.
The USA were also kept united by force, even though right to secession was in their constitution. They supposedly had a constitutional right to secede from the Union, but when they did so in 1861, the Federals sent an army to "crush the revolt".
I do have my dog in it, just like I do have my dog in seeing Ireland unite and Scotland secede from the UK.

Now there is not any chance for Quebec being separate from the rest of the country. Each time there was a referendum, the results were getting lower and lower, because of the immigration.
