They didn't care much for fighting in either of the world wars because by that point most French Canadians had been living in Canada for many generations- going back centuries. Conflicts in Europe where not of particular interest to them because they did not feel much kinship with Europe or even France for that matter. While in English Canada during that same period British imperialism or nationalism was extremely high and they where all to eager to fight alongside the British. Since Canada was pretty much a backwater they felt extremely proud to be a part of the largest empire in the world. This is why Victoria Day (he birthday of Queen Victoria) is a holiday to this day in Canada but not a holiday in Britain itself.
