Their origin is mostly Medieval Hungarian settlers that went to Moldova. Nowadays they are only a few tens of thousands left, conservative figures only say thousands, and unfortunately fastly assimilating into Romanians, since they are one of the most religiously Catholic people in Europe, very archaic in their tradition and isolation, however the Catholic priests are sent there from Iasi Catholic Diocese (Romanian), which only hold the mass in Romanian and try to convert them to abandon their language and adopt Romanian. But their language clearly preserves a 500 years ago state of Hungarian, with many own inventions and borrowings from Romanian.
