Bitola Architecture

I admire architecture, so thought i'd make a thread on the architecture of one of my ancestral towns. Bitola, Macedonia.

I've been to Bitola twice because i have family members in Florina, right next door

It gave me good impression and the people were welcoming. The bazaar was cool!

Yeah, i was going to post photos of the bazaar/pazar. No point in ignoring the Ottoman past. It happened and now we have the left overs of it. But they can be enjoyed too.

Looks like any other larger ex-Ottoman town. These buildings are build from the end of the 19th century till the beginning of the 20th century when the wealthy people had the opportunity to build houses designed from Austrian/German or Italian architects. In Bulgaria these parts of the town today are places were all the fancy cafes and restaurants are located and are pedestrian zone.

Reminds me of the center of my hometown which is build from an Italian architect.

Yes very similar i see. Bitola once had alot of Jews in the city. Jews had the money in the Ottoman empire. Turks did not touch them. They would have had the money to build extravagant buildings for themselves.
