Were Slavic men always more nihilistic than Western Europeans? Even before world wars and communism?

I think many Slavic/Eastern European men can be described as outwardly "dour". This is a broad generalization of course. I'm not sure this holds to younger generations but I think it really applied to my grandfather's generation (WWII generation)

Very negative like. People who are drawn to some very over simplistic and negative thinking. At least many Russians are seen as such. Nihilistic people bitch, whine, because life is unfair and they have no tools to overcome the ruthlessness of this world. I bet communism completely changed some things just like Nazi past changed Germans forever, but i still feel like Eastern- Europeans always were very different from other Europeans. Maybe it's their Orthodox faith, not sure. But Eastern Europeans seem to be less elastic, soft, but more emotionally smart in their own way. They are just very different and more brutal like. Germans can be some kind of an anomaly here, since they are very nihilistic as well, but are not Slavic. Harsh life made them like this probably. They need tools to overcome issues as well.
