Default Marek Kamiński, a Pole at the Poles

He is the first person the world to have ever walked both the North Pole as the South Pole unassisted. An honour that forever will belong to a Polish person, as it should be.

Marek Kamiński was born in Gdansk in 1964 and as a child he always dreamed of traveling and reaching the North Pole on skis. He did achieve on that goal in 1990. In 1995 he reached the South Pole during a 53-day expedition, alone, traveling 1,3000 km on foot.

In April 2004 also traveled with Jan Mela, an amputee, to the North Pole starting from Spitsbergen. In December that same year they both traveled to the South Pole. During Christmas they made a Christmas tree of snow and has Polish beetroot soup together.

Very remarkable man who didn't limit himself with doubt and knows to achieve his goals.

One would think he did it because he's Polish. Perhaps it still has something to do with it, but it could very well be coincidence.

Marek is also a philantropist (as you'd suggest by travels with Jan Mela). He often raises money for charitable goals. One of his future plans is his so-called travel to the 'third Pole'. It's a travel from Vladivostok to Santiago on foot, which he'd call 'the third (imaginary) Pole' from East to West.

The most Polish way of traveling one can imagine.

Unfortunately he reached the South Pole on foot.

Reaching both the North Pole and the South Pole on skis would be more Polish.
