I think we have reached a point in society, due to increasing longevity, better lifestyle habits, etc. where turning 60 no longer has the same connotation of entering old age as it used to... it has sort of become "middle aged" the way 50 was for the last few decades.

Similarly, I believe people have a different attitude about being 30... years ago, at 30 if you were not married with children it was a huge deal. Now, people are staying single for longer, changing jobs more, and taking longer to settle down.
