No, though I personally know a few people who quite enjoyed it. I'll get to it one day (it's not among my priorities )...just because the game is old, doesn't mean it won't be fun for me. Last year I played Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines for the first time and it still holds up to this day.

Now that I think about it, Larian Studios has done a lot of good work with the Divinity series.
Divinity: Original Sin II (I actually tested it, but didn't go in depth) is basically the best they've done so far, which is a necessity so they don't become too repetitive, and keep their place in the RPG pantheon.
There is also a distinction to make between actual RPG, whose model was Baldur's Gate (BTW, its developer, BioWare, seems to have also made a majority of high-tier games) and Action-RPG, whose model was Diablo. The first gave rise to a number of games with great storylines and essentially focused on the single-player, whereas the second gave us all the MMORPG's (everyone knows WoW, whose maker was the same as for Diablo = Blizzard Entertainment) which are essentially great multiplayer experiences with usually a lack of story and a big focus on competitive play.
I think that it is one of the rare games exploring the concept of Chernobyl and putting a focus on Eastern Europe, which can be refreshing after having played a game like Fallout 3, although both are quite different in the gameplay: Fallout 3 is a classic "mouse & keyboard" RPG (as Bethesda has so many times successfully done), whereas S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is actually not a proper RPG, but was among the first realistic FPS focusing on RPG elements (choices, dialogues, open world, etc.), and I did enjoy much all the games of the series (there are 3 in all).

Stalker is not a game for every kind of player. For example a casual gamer or a console player would not appreciate Stalker because it's very punitive, you must be very careful when exploring the Zone, there are dangers at every step, and behind every corner. The Radioactive / Electro / Gravitational anomalies, every kind of mutant beast, soldier armed to teeth etc.etc.. You can't walk into an enemy base shooting like Rambo
About the graphics, it's still very good and perfect for the game atmosphere, moreover there are dozens of mods that greatly enhance the graphics and gameplay. My favorite mod is Oblivion Lost, it's a great and satisfying experience, much better than the unmodded game which is also full of bugs and bad design (example, headshooting soldiers 20 times in the face before they die?). In Oblivion Lost the ballistic has been totally redesigned, the firefights are much more realistic and brutal. Oblivion Lost is a must for every Stalker player.

I had a Kiwi Italian (mother Kiwi) friend in childhood whose paternal Uncle played Diablo ll intensely, whenever he came to stay with them in NZ

'love seeing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. getting mentioned, it's so fricking great that they resumed the production of a new sequel.

I started to play RPGs mostly in the recent years (I haven't really played much video games for a portion of 10 years of my life), but nowadays it has really grew to become one of my favorite genres. I especially love Action RPGs, and my favorites are The Witcher 3, Shadow of Mordor but also The Division, even if some would merely call it a Looter Shooter. I also feel like one day I will also learn to appreciate Skyrim and Divinity: Original Sin more, probably after I will have more free time to learn how to play them. I am really looking forward for the upcoming The Outer Worlds, it totally seems like a game that would hit all the soft spots for me.
