Default Pirates of the Caribbean - what nationalities were the caribbean pirates from-Mostly English/French?

So I've read that pirates of the Caribbean trace their origin to French king licensing pirating to weaken the Spanish Empire in the region, which as Cristiano would tell us was the most powerful empire in the world controlling all of the region.

Soon the English crown also allowed private pirating operations and the Dutch followed suit.

Were the Pirates of the Caribbean therefore mostly English/French?

What would their gedmatch approximation results be - Quebecois?

What happened to the pirate guilds/nations? Did they assimilate into other countries?

    Many were called Barbary pirates.

they came from the maghreb and especially Morocco since theoretically it was under vasallage of the Ottoman empire but practically did their own business, both in the Med and the Atlantic

I always knew there was something really French about the caribbean pirates the way they are portrayed. A lot of British as well though

The famous Blackbeard was of course an Englishman and William Kidd a Scotsman

England's most famous and celebrated pirates are from my neck of the woods in the West Country (south west England.)

As a child I was taken on school outing trips with our teachers around Dorset to look at historic pirate smuggler trails and coves along the south-west coastline.

We have pirate celebration days in Dorset and local motorbike racers named after pirates. http://www.poolepirates.co

Johnny Depp impersonated an English West Country accent in Pirates of the Caribbean and the ships in that movie were modelled on old English ships according to the film makers.

Sir Francis Drake (from Devon, south west England) was a wealthy pirate and is hailed as a national hero.

Sir William Raleigh (from Devon) was another famous and extremely wealthy 6ft tall English pirate who's also regarded as a national hero.

They didn't just sail to the Caribbean Isles but also sailed around the world to avoid being chased by the Spanish ships, after raiding and looting lots of their gold and treasures from the Spanish in the American continents as well as in the Caribbean.

They took fellow pirates from the West Country on their ships with them around the Caribbean to loot the Catholic Spanish ships. (The Spanish themselves had stolen their treasures from the Native Amerindians.)

Both Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh were sons of West Country farmers who were favoured by Protestant Queen Elizabeth I as her personal pirates. They were given palaces to live in as rewards for all the vast treasures they'd looted. We learned about them in junior school.

The Dutch and French (along with the English and the Spanish) also fought over the Caribbean Isles, although I don't know if the French and Dutch were pirates too.

The British Royal Navy in modern times saving a Spanish boat from pirates (below.) The irony of this because the English sailors used to frequently loot a vast amount of treasures from Spanish ships before the British took over from the Spanish to have the world's largest empire.

Very interesting Lilly thank you for sharing this, I have forgotten about Sir Francis Drake and the fact that there were pirates with knighthoods
