Default The future of Continental English

Given that English is the only reasonable choice for a lingua franca in Europe, that Brits are leaving the EU, and the Irish speak incomprehensible English, will continental English develop as a separate dialect?

I don't think Brexit will have much of an impact on the status of continental English. It's not like Brexit entails the UK disappearing from Europe altogether. It will still exert an influence. Plus, the USA is the primary reason that English is the global lingua franca, and the continuing influence of the USA is obviously not affected by Brexit either. As for the preferred dialect of English, I understand that British English is generally taught in Europe in lieu of American English. Brexit may very well entail American English gaining some degree of popularity in school curricula compared to British English.
