Balkan Turks were the driving force of Turkey's westernization. They brought European laws and way of life to the country, having been largely influenced by Western values.

Hadn't it been for them; Anatolian Turks would have been confined to a landlocked small territory in inner Anatolia.

Balkan Turks identify with Turkey. And I believe Turkey should face towards the West and work on implementing the European Union standards for the well-being and prosperity of the nation. Turkey is a secular, transcontinental Republic that is both in Europe and Asia (Izmir is technically in Asia but Western Anatolia and Southern coast are closer to Europe if anything. Also the Black Sea coast is closer to Caucasia and Southeastern Europe). It should be considered as such.
