    ov is still a Greek surname ending as it is merely Greek genitive transcribed to another Alphabet.

    My surname ending is ou which is the Greek equivalent.
    Being Greek is an experienced grounded into nation, not consumption.

    A Cretan girl told me that the origin of the termination "-akis" originates in the Ottoman occupation, after some revolts by the Cretans, the Turks called -akis in order to humiliate them.

    -akis means -little

    Any truth to this?
    -akis is a diminutive form used by the Muslim Cretans to intimidate the Christian Cretans. It stuck.

    Like this guy?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heraclides_Ponticus

    Heraclides Ponticus (Greek: Ἡρακλείδης ὁ Ποντικός Herakleides; c. 390 BC – c. 310 BC)[1] was a Greek philosopher and astronomer who was born in Heraclea Pontica, now Karadeniz Ereğli, Turkey, and migrated to Athens. He is best remembered for proposing that the Earth rotates on its axis, from west to east, once every 24 hours.[2] He is also hailed as the originator of the heliocentric theory, although this is doubted by some.
    You've got some really famous matches in myheritage....

    What about the suffix -ikos? I've seen Greek names like Pavlos -> Pavlikos. Is it a diminutive as well?

    In Sardinian language the diminutives use a very similar suffix, probably derived from Greek (Greek language and Byzantine liturgy were used by Sardinian church until the end of XIth century; this may explain the existence of these diminutives in Sardinian language).

    Greek :

    Pavlos -> Pavlikos

    Sardinian :

    Paulu -> Paulícu | Paula -> Paulíca
    Antóni -> Antonícu | Antonia -> Antoníca
    Servadore -> Servadorícu
    Bore -> Borícu, Forícu (diminutives of Servadore)
    Peppe -> Peppícu (diminutives of Zuseppe = Joseph)
    Non Auro, Sed Ferro, Recuperanda Est Patria (Not by Gold, But by Iron, Is the Nation to be Recovered) - Marcus Furius Camillus (Roman General)
