Default Ethnic minorities in the west: how do people of your own race react to you?

Do they smile at you, look at you, nod, try to strike up conversations, etc.? Or do they not acknowledge you in any way and act towards you the way anyone else of another race would?

On the streets of austria like anyone else from another race would. Also in austria most roma who I see are beggars on the street. Not all are of course but the ones I recognise as roma on the streets are. They ask me for a coin just like they would ask anyone else.

In a walking on the street situation you'll have two kinds of Assyrians. Some are stuck up, wanting to act like they've fully assimilated and that they don't even recognize their own, while others are more down to earth and will smile / make conversation / engage in hugging or shaking hands. I prefer type 2 but also I understand that type 1 don't see the need to pay homage. Note: Just my personal exp, potentially others have had more positive interactions

I imagine that with Arabs, you get far more of the latter? I just don't really see them assimilating all that well for the most part.

Idk tbh, but for Assyrians I get a fair mix of both kinds of responses. Also many people don't recognize that I'm Assyrian, I don't even think I look that atypical.

I have no idea. They probably make good money with it and it is probably part of their culture to begg as source of income. They probably are organised in groups and make good money with it if more of them begg.

I can pass in Southern Europe, so the general populace doesn't always pick up on my mixed race-ness, unless they're Anthro nerds.

It's so sad, they are hundreds if not thousands of years removed from Indians but still live like them.

However there are also ones who dont begg but they are not always immediately as visible and sometimes or often are in groups or families. But they also dont strike up a conversation or smile. I also dont see a reason why they would do that just because we are the same ethnicity. My mum met some other roma women from serbia in hospital where she had back surgery and they talked to her. But my mum talks to everyone no matter the race. I met a romanian roma once. First I didnt know he is roma thought he is just some undefined ethnikid but then he said he is from romania and roma. We talked but nothing overtly brotherly. And later we went our ways, and we talked only once, we didnt became closer friends.
