What are the ugliest and/or most annoying languages (or dialects) you've ever heard? And/or have learned?
My list:
1. Polish - It just sounds too weird and cumbersome to me. The palatalizations and consonants are awkward. To me, Polish sounds like someone speaking gibberish or having food stuck in their mouth and splurging while speaking. (Russian is far prettier and better organized, hate to say it.)
2. Italian - For most of the very same reasons of Polish. It also has a similar sound to Polish as well, for a Romance language. It is actually my least favorite Romance language.
3. Turkish - Sounds like a very bizarre and coarse sounding version of either Hungarian or Basque. Also sounds a bit Arabic to me. (at least the accent?)
4. Mexican/South/Central American Spanish - Sounds like a very ugly and bland form of Spanish; compared to Iberian Spanish. (which sounds a lot more happy/enthusiastic.) You can tell there is a bit of Amerindian accent influence in it, as well.
5. Arabic - It is a well organized language (grammatically) but it just sounds damn awful. It is also a very scientific language; kind of like English or even Greek, but it sounds very menacing and awkward. It also sounds too bizarre due to the variations of the vowel system.
I used to think that Dutch and Welsh were pretty ugly too; but they really grew on me and I learned to like them - I find these two languages to be, what I call "acquired-taste languages".
BTW: I think that the French of France would find our Cajun French to be kinda ugly, if not weird. (funny, because I like our dialect of French better than theirs. Their version is too sweet/sappy for my ears. Try speaking French with a Dutch/Flemish or German accent, and you've got a close accent to Cajun French. Ours is a little more coarse while Standard French is a little more delicate.)
