Turks are a mix of Turkmen (Central Asian) tribes and Greeco-Anatolians. With some people from Balkans. Some of Turks are more C.Asian influenced some are more Anatolian influenced.
Racially, Turks are kinda different from their neighbours as can be seen here. Mongoloid dna in Turks exist. this varies from 10–15%. Some Turks have none, some have as high as 21% as can be seen in second pic.
here’s a map based on the personal results of Turks from almost every province of Turkey:
Turks cluster with none of their neighbours. However, they don’t exactly cluster with Central Asians either. That’s because as i mentioned before a mix. As you can see Central Asians such as Hazaras don’t cluster with Mongolians/Yakuts either. Because Central Asians are also a mix of Iranians and Turkics. Except for Hazaras who are a mix of Afghans and Mongolians. But no one calls them Iranian converts.
Turkish ancestors mixed with Iranians for centuries. When they entered Anatolia, they were far from being pure. They were, i think, around 20–40% Mongoloid when they entered Anatolia. and a modern Turk is around 10–15%, broadly 0–25%. Which actually means that the Seljuk Turk contribution to Turkish genetics is actually higher than many think.
But what happened to Anatolians?
They were either killed, or forced to migrate to Armenian kingdom of Cilicia or Roman Empire, or simply converted and mixed with Turks.
Those who say Turks mass converted Greeks Armenians etc are wrong. Those who say Turks are Mongolian (lol), pure Central Asian are also wrong. Turks are simply a mix of those peoples. Just like how the English are a mix of Germanics and Celtics, or Mexicans a mix of Southern Europeans and Amerindians, or Central Asians a mix of original Turkics and Iranians/Persians or Europeans being a mix of Steppe Indo-Europeans and Neolithic farmers of ancient Europe. A similar situation can also be observed in modern-day Romanians as well, who are a mix of Dacians and Romans.
If you have any questions about the genetic makeup of Turks feel free to ask. Also, haplogroups actually don’t tell anything about ethnic makeup of a country. J2 and R1b are Turkish main haplogroups (30–40%). However, J2 also exists in Central Asia in high amounts, but also in Crete, but also in Italy. What’s the genetic relationship between a Cretan and an Uyghur? Or let’s go with R1b, R1b exists in Central Africa, France, Turkmenistan and Armenia in great amounts. But a Central African has nothing to do with an Armenian genetically even if both are R1b.
