You do know the origin of the term, don't you? It was originally an insult to Mexican-based US soldiers, who usually dressed in green. As a result, they were called "green go". And what do you think about terms like "spic", "wetback", "sandnigga", "Muzzrat", "yid", "kike", "nigga", "Paki" and so forth?

It was not an insult, they just wanted them to leave.

Anyway, racial slurs have always been funny and ridiculous to me. "Spic" always makes me laugh.

It dates back to the Mexican-American war of 1846-1848. It's now used for Americans who are of Northern Euro ancestry or looking.

If it was an insult Gringos wouldn't call their newspaper "Gringo Gazette".

It's the same as calling someone a Spic. Still a racial slur. But who cares?

Nigga isn't necessarily a slur. Black people say it casually all the time, but I'm sure you know that, being from the anglosphere. Whether nigga and gringo are slur or not depends on who say it, the tone and the context.

No, I don't give a crap if someone calls me that. It's like on the level of redneck or honky.

It's still anti white. But I don't care about it either. But if we're going to call a spade a spade. Any time someone uses the "n word" or says spic or something, it that's "racist", so is redneck, honky, and gringo.

    That's a good point.

I think there are levels though. Gringo does not have the same level of negative connotation and hate associated with it's usage as the n word does. In contrast, the term redneck is kinda funny and not generally thought of as very offensive.

But yes, ultimately gringo may very well be a racial epithet.
