Default What was eaten in Greece before all of the Ottoman dishes?

Before all of the items that are eaten in Greece that are also eaten in Turkey, Armenia, etc. that either arrived during the Ottoman Empire or the population exchange in the 1900s...

what was eaten in Greece before this and originated there? Does anyone have examples of distinctly "Greek" food?

But how do we know that those foods that came from the Ottomans, did not in turn come to Anatolia during the considerable period when Anatolia was firmly within the Greek sphere of influence?

Because a lot of them originated in Persia or further east and would have traveled west. Also, these items are present in other Balkan countries.

The Ancient Greek cultural network in the wider region would have been an excellent conduit for Persian cuisine to be translated West, though..

Possibly. A lot of roast pig I imagine, and bread. This question applies to all Balkans really, dishes South-Slavs consume like Cevapi, Burek, Sarma, Paprika, you name it, all inspired by Ottomans.

Kokoretsi is based on an ancient Greek dish(Chordais) which was eaten in Mainland Greece from Ancient times until now

Basicly all elementary grilled meat dishes like grilled lamb,Lamb kotellets,Mprizoles,Kontosouvli

Then Greeks have their own kinds of Chesses which are distinct like

    Graviera

    And of course feta

Mageiritsa the traditional Easter Soup made of Lamb intestines which dates back to
Byzantine times and is a Pan Greek food(Mainlands,Islands,Asia Minor)

    https://greekcitytimes.com/2018/04/0...k-easter-soup/

Then there is many more things

Cheeses,Sausages,Wines and other dishes but it would be to much to include them all in one post

Rather posting a few example post by post

The Talmud tells us that the only language the Torah could be translated into elegantly is Greek.

Rice came orginally from the East

    Seafood yes

Basicly everywhere at the coasts of Greece there were Greeks occupiying themselves with fishing and seafood was essential
In the Inland and Mountains people were shepards so most grilled meat dishes made of lamb and goats were known to them
long before any Ottoman came to Greece.
Also Yoghurt was known to Greeks before any Ottoman set foot

And then in Central till Southern Greece,Olive planting and producing Olive Oil is practised since times of Homer or
    Hesiodos or even earlier

Most Ottoman dishes are Roman in their origins.
